单词 Newton’s law of gravitation
释义
Newton’s law of gravitation

Physics
  • There is a force of attraction between any two massive particles in the universe. For any two point masses m1 and m2, separated by a distance d, the force of attraction F is given by F=m1m2G/d2, where G is the gravitational constant. Real bodies having spherical symmetry act as point masses positioned at their centres of mass.

Mathematics
  • See inverse square law of gravitation.

Astronomy
  • The law put forward by I. Newton in 1687 which states that any two bodies attract each other with a force that depends on the product of their masses divided by the square of the distance between them. Put mathematically, the gravitational force of attraction, F, between two masses m1 and m2, separated by distance r, is given by F = Gm1 m2/r2, where G is a constant known as the gravitational constant. See also gravitation.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • See gravitational acceleration.
