A graphical means of calculating the impedances and reflection coefficients along a transmission line, developed by P. M. Smith in 1939. The chart incorporates the periodic variation of impedance and reflection coefficient with distance along the transmission line (see diagram), enabling rapid calculation of the impedances, admittances, reflection coefficients, VSWR, etc.
