An international committee that harmonizes the recording, cataloguing, and networking of Earth-observation satellite data. Established in 1984, CEOS also helps coordinate international mission plans and the exchange of policy and technical information to encourage compatibility between Earth-observation systems.
Its members, who represent all nations active in space, include civil agencies responsible for Earth-observation satellite programmes, and user organizations such as the World Meteorological Organization and the Global Climate-Observing System. Currently, there are 52 members and associate members, consisting of space agencies and national and international organizations participating in CEOS planning.
