A connected unit comprising the command module and service module in flight, normally identified with the Apollo missions. When the lunar module disengaged to land two astronauts on the Moon, the third remained in the CSM orbiting the Moon. Somewhat confusingly, the CSM was normally referred to as the command module, especially when disengaged from the lunar module.
