单词 sequestration
释义
sequestration

Chemistry
  • The process of forming coordination complexes of an ion in solution. Sequestration often involves the formation of chelate complexes, and is used to prevent the chemical effect of an ion without removing it from the solution (e.g. the sequestration of Ca2+ ions in water softening). It is also a way of supplying ions in a protected form, e.g. sequestered iron solutions for plants in regions having alkaline soil.

Chemical Engineering
  • 1. The process of forming a complex of an ion in solution to prevent the chemical effect by removing it from solution. Some polymers can be used to sequester metal ions such as copper in water.

    2. The process of removing greenhouse gases and in particular carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Trees and plants use photosynthesis to sequester the gases from the atmosphere to help reduce the greenhouse effect and control global warming. See carbon sequestration.

Economics
  • 1. A UK procedure by which assets can be temporarily frozen by court order.

    2. The US term for mandatory spending cuts in the budget proposed under the Gramm–Rudman–Hollings law on the deficit.

    3. See carbon sequestration.
