Sectors of an economy which are particularly concerned about loss of markets and jobs through competition from imports. This applies particularly to sectors where less developed countries have a comparative advantage. Agriculture, textiles and clothing, iron and steel, and basic chemicals fall in this category. Sensitive sectors in advanced economies have lobbied, usually successfully, for exemption from general trade liberalization measures.
