A radio observatory at Westford, Massachusetts, founded in 1960. Its main instrument is a 36.6-m dish, housed within a radome (protective dome), opened in 1964 and originally used for radar observations of planets but now also used for radio astronomy. It is operated by the Northeast Radio Observatory Corporation (NEROC), a consortium of nine educational institutions, on behalf of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which owns the facility. In 2014 the original antenna was replaced with an improved version capable of working at wavelengths as short as 3 mm.
