His two space shuttle flights include the November 1997 Columbia mission in which he performed two space walks to capture a Spartan 201 satellite and to test space station assembly techniques. Scott was selected as an astronaut in 1992, and retired from NASA in 1999. In 2006, Scott became vice-president and deputy general manager on the engineering and science contract at Johnson Space Center for Jacobs Engineering in Houston, Texas. Scott’s book, Reflections from Earth Orbit (2005), is a semi-autobiographical account of his experiences as a NASA astronaut.
