A standard capacitor that uses a guard ring to reduce the edge effect (see diagram). The guard-well capacitor is a special type of guard-ring capacitor used for capacitance below 0.1 picofarad. In this type the guard ring forms a well on which a Pyrex disc is mounted in order to locate the electrode assembly accurately.
