The elongated area on the ground within which fragments of a meteorite fall are scattered; also known as a strewn field. The long axis of the ellipse is parallel to the meteorite’s direction of travel. The sizes of the fragments increase along the ellipse, because air resistance causes smaller fragments to fall to the ground sooner.
