specializing in Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods. A graduate of Oxford U, Green gained his PhD at Sheffield U in 1976. His academic career has taken him from U Bath (1974) to Durham U (1978), and to U Bristol (1989). He was awarded the Guy Medal in Bronze of the RSS in 1987, and in Silver in 1999. He was President of the RSS in 2001 and was elected FRS in 2003.
