A mission by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to monitor sources and sinks of CO₂ on a sub-continental scale. GOSAT was launched on 23 January 2009, from the Tanegashima Space Center, Japan, into a Sun-synchronous circular orbit at an altitude of 666 km. GOSAT-2, a follow-on mission, was launched in October 2018.
