A television service in which signals are transmitted to stations mounted on satellites in geostationary Earth orbit, which relay them to the surface. There they fall on to parabolic dishes that focus them on to a low-noise block downconverter in front of the centre of the dish. This amplifies the signal and converts the block of signal frequencies to a block of intermediate frequencies that are easier to process. A coaxial cable then carries the signal to the television receiver. The receiver decodes the signal, allowing the desired programme to be viewed on the television set.
