A treaty between Russia and China signed at Nerchinsk, a town in Russia. It was the first treaty China signed with a western power. Drawn up in Latin by Jesuits from the Chinese emperor Kangxi’s court, the treaty fixed the Sino-Russian frontier well to the north of the Amur River. Albazin, a fortress town the Russians had built on the Amur, was dismantled and rebuilt in the Western Hills near Beijing.
