A plant in the fig family (Moraceae) that produces a white, rubber-like latex. In the wild it is a large tree up to 40 m tall, sometimes taller, with a stem up to 2 m in diameter, native to southern and south-eastern Asia and naturalized in Florida, the Caribbean islands, and Sri Lanka, but it is grown worldwide for ornament, outdoors in warm climates and elsewhere as a houseplant, prized for its large, shiny leaves.
