An artiodactyl (family Giraffidae) with a very long neck, long forelimbs that support the weight of the neck and head, and horn-like protuberances (ossicones) on the head. Its shape is reminiscent of a camel’s and its body markings of a leopard’s, hence its former name ‘cameleopard’. Giraffes are browsers. There are four species living on the African savannah grasslands.
