‘The art and science of solving complex spatial problems with computers. It is focused on the research, development and application of spatial information technologies to address social, economic and environmental problems at human and geographical scales. Geocomputation represents a conscious attempt to move the research agenda back to geographical analysis and modelling, with or without Geographic Information System (GIS) in tow. Its concern is to enrich geography with a toolbox of methods to model and analyze a range of highly complex, often non-deterministic problems’ (Xue et al. (2004) Future Generation Computer Sys. 20, 7).
