单词 rock glacier
释义
rock glacier

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • A tongue-like mass of large, angular blocks, finer debris, and ice, found especially in middle latitude Alpine regions (there are about 1000 active examples in the Swiss Alps). It may have a core of ice, in which case it may have originated as a debris-covered glacier, or it may be ice-cemented, when it may be a permafrost phenomenon.

Geography
  • A very slowly moving river of angular rock debris, characteristic of high mountain permafrost and made up of debris and ice that creeps on hillslopes at a typical rate of a few decimetres per year (Serrano et al. (2006) Geomorph. 74, 1–4). Ikeda and Matsuoika (2006) Geomorph. 73, 3–4 distinguish between boulder rock glaciers, with an active layer of matrix-free boulders derived from crystalline rocks, and massive limestone; and pebbly rock glaciers, made of matrix-supported debris derived from less resistant shales, and platy limestone.
