A solid tier system used by astronauts for sleeping. On a space shuttle, the sleep station is installed on the starboard side of the mid-deck. Each tier includes a sleeping bag, personal stowage containers, a light, and a ventilation inlet and outlet.
The station is built in two versions: the plastic three-tier system for three astronauts weighs about 93 kg, while the metal four-tier version for four astronauts weighs 78 kg. The lower tier of both versions can be removed for access to the cabin debris trapdoor.
