Richardson–Dushman equation

The fundamental equation describing thermionic emission of electrons from the surface of a metal as a function of the temperature of the metal:
$J = A T^{2} exp (- \frac{Φ}{k T})$
where J is the emitted electron current, A is the Richardson constant (a function of the surface condition of the material), Φ is the work function of the metal (the height of the potential barrier to electron emission), k is the Boltzmann constant, and T the thermodynamic temperature.
