One of a small group of yellow, cool, hypergiant, pulsating variables. The type star is itself a semiregular variable (subtype SRD) that has undergone shell episodes, with low-velocity ejection and corresponding fades. Stars in the group have periods of 60–400 days or more, and they may all exhibit non-radial pulsation. The stars have masses slightly below 40 solar masses.
