A device for measuring temperature in which the working fluid is a gas. It provides the most accurate method of measuring temperatures in the range 2.5 to 1337 K. Using a fixed mass of gas a constant-volume thermometer measures the pressure of a fixed volume of gas at relevant temperatures, usually by means of a mercury manometer and a barometer.
