who worked in Germany. Reinhold was professor at Jena from 1787 to 1794, and subsequently at Kiel. After a period as a follower of Kant, he veered towards the idealism of Fichte and of Jacobi, eventually rejecting their idealism in favour of a kind of realism associated with C. G. Bardili. His influence lay largely in his attempt to systematize Kantian idealism, in his clear and widely-read expositions of Kant following his Letters on the Kantian Philosophy appeared, originally in the Deutsche Mercur for 1786–7. Subsequent work concerned the basis of representation.
