A module with a basis. Unlike vector spaces, modules typically do not have bases. A free module over a ring R is isomorphic to Rn for some n, and all bases of Rn have n elements. Note ℤ2 is free as a ℤ2-module, as {1} is a basis, but not free as a ℤ-module, as 1 is a torsion element.
