At the age of 19 he entered Parliament advocating American independence, and later welcomed the French Revolution. After Lord North’s resignation he became Secretary of State, collaborating with his former opponent North to form a government in 1783. The coalition was brought down the same year and Fox remained in opposition until the death of Pitt the Younger in 1806, when he took office again as Foreign Secretary and passed an anti-slavery bill through Parliament.
