A dwarf spheroidal galaxy (type dSph) in the Local Group of galaxies, about 450 000 l.y. away and nearly 6000 l.y. across. It has approximately 1.5 × 107 times the luminosity of the Sun and contains mostly old stars, but shows evidence of some younger stars about 3 billion years old. It was discovered in 1938 by H. Shapley.
