A camera with a periscope-like mechanism which allows the photographer to view the image through the lens, as it will be captured, rather than through a viewfinder located above the lens. Light from the image passes through the lens to a mirror that reflects it to a prism, which refracts it through the viewfinder. Thus the image seen through the viewfinder is identical to that which the camera will capture through the lens. When the photographer presses the shutter release the mirror folds out of the way.
