Possessing flagella, which are thread-like structures on the exterior of cells that usually function in locomotion. Bacterial flagella rotate; flagella on eukaryotic cells undulate and have a more complex structure. There are two types of eukaryotic flagellum: the whiplash flagellum, which is smooth, and the tinsel flagellum, which has numerous fine, hair-like projections.
