释义
RADARSAT

Space Exploration
  • An advanced Earth-observation satellite system implemented and operated by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to monitor environmental changes and the Earth's resources. Its RADARSAT-1 satellite was launched by NASA in November 1995 to become the first fully operational civilian radar satellite system having large-scale production; RADARSAT-1 stopped operating in March 2013, though it well outlived its planned five-year lifetime. RADARSAT-2 launched on 14 December 2007 as the world's most advanced commercial synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, having multipolarization to identify surface features to aid mapping and surveillance. RADARSAT-2 has typically acquired more than 30 000 images a year since its launch in 2007, and is continuing to operate at the end of 2017.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • A Canadian satellite mission to monitor the environment, provide data to help manage natural resources, and perform coastal surveillance. RADARSAT-1 was launched on 4 November 1995 and retired on 9 May 2013. RADARSAT-2 was launched on 14 December 2007, from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, into a Sun-synchronous polar orbit at an altitude of 798 km. The RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM), complementary of RADARSAT-2 and concentrating on disaster management and ecosystem monitoring, is scheduled for launch in May 2019.
