A general term for the study of ferromagnetism, ferroelectricity (see ferroelectric materials), and ferroelasticity. Sometimes this term is also used to include more complicated ordered states, such as antiferromagnetism, ferrimagnetism, and the antiferroelectric state (see antiferroelectricity). Both the various ordered states and the phase transitions to and from these states are studied in ferroics.
