Crystals that exhibit electrical properties analogous to certain magnetic properties, such as ferromagnetism. In an alternating electric field very large values of the piezoelectric and dielectric constants are developed, usually in one particular direction within a certain temperature range. These crystals are particularly useful as detectors of vibrations.
