Small experimental Iranian satellite. Designed and manufactured locally in 2009 as the new generation of Omid (‘Hope’) satellite. The hexagonal craft is 49 cm tall and 35 cm wide; it features a cold gas propulsion system to circularize its orbit. Launched from Semnan, Iran, on 2 February 2015, Fajir (meaning ‘Dawn’) is the fourth Iranian-made satellite which was put into low Earth orbit, after three others between 2009 and 2012. The craft had a life expectancy of 1.5 years and burned up in Earth’s atmosphere on 26 February 2015.
