An unremarkable constellation of the southern sky, representing a mariner’s compass. Its brightest star is Alpha Pyxidis, magnitude 3.7. It contains the recurrent nova T Pyxidis that has flared up in 1890, 1902, 1920, 1944, 1966, and in 2011 when it reached a peak of mag. 6.4.
