单词 eutrophication
释义
eutrophication

Chemical Engineering
  • A biological process in which there is excessive algal growth in water due to an excess of nutrients and in particular phosphates and nitrates. The eventual decomposition of the algae depletes the water of available oxygen, resulting in a sterile body of water. While it is a natural process, it is assisted by the release of chemicals into water as a form of pollution.

Geography
  • The process by which ecosystems, usually lakes, become more fertile environments as detergents, sewage, and agricultural fertilizers flow in; the enrichment of nutrients (De Anda et al. (2001) Lakes & Reservoirs: Res. & Manage. 6, 4). For eutrophication in the UK, see National Expert Group on Transboundary Air Pollution (NEGTAP) 2001.
