An antelope-goat that is the only member of the family Antilocapridae; despite the name it is not an antelope. It stands about 1 m tall at the shoulder, has a fawn coat with white markings on the face, throat, sides, underside, and rump, and slender, flattened horns with a small branch (the prong). It is a herbivore feeding on a wide range of plants. The pronghorn escapes predators by running and is reputed to be the fastest animal in the western hemisphere. It occurs in central and western North America.
