A prominent meteor shower, particularly for observers in the southern hemisphere, produced by debris from Halley’s Comet. Activity is seen between April 24 and May 20, with a broad maximum centred on May 5, when the radiant lies at RA 22h 32m, dec. −01°. Peak ZHR values may approach 50. Eta Aquariid meteors are very swift (geocentric velocity 66 km/s), and a high proportion leave persistent trains. Bright Eta Aquariids are quite common, and often appear yellow.
