A search for asteroids and comets operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in conjunction with the US Air Force. NEAT began in 1995 using a 1-m telescope at the USAF’s Ground-based Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance (GEODSS) site on Mt Haleakala, Maui, Hawaii. In 2000 the search was transferred to the 1.2-m telescope of the Maui Space Surveillance Site (MSSS). In 2001 the 1.2-m Schmidt at Palomar Observatory also joined in the project. NEAT ended in 2007, having discovered 443 near-Earth asteroids.
