A type of liquid boiling that occurs on a submerged surface. The surface in a stagnant pool of liquid is heated to a temperature above that of the boiling point of the liquid. The boiling that occurs produces vapour whose motion relative to the surrounding liquid is due to the buoyancy effects of the vapour with the bulk of the liquid being at rest.
