Material thrown out from an explosive event, such as a crater-forming impact or a volcanic eruption. An ejecta blanket is the area immediately outside the rim of an impact crater, where the ejecta has completely covered the underlying terrain.
Space Exploration
Any material thrown out of a crater due to volcanic eruption or the impact of a meteorite or other object. Ejecta from impact craters on the Moon often form long bright streaks known as rays, which in some cases can be traced for thousands of kilometres across the lunar surface.
