单词 Draconid meteors
释义
Draconid meteors

Astronomy
  • A periodic meteor shower associated with Comet Giacobini–Zinner; also known as the Giacobinids. The radiant lies at RA 17h 28m, dec. +54°, near Beta Draconis. Activity is seen only in those years when the Earth crosses the descending node of the comet’s orbit close to 21P/Giacobini–Zinner itself, usually around October 6–10. High Draconid rates (50–450 meteors/h) were noted in a 4.5-hour interval on 1933 October 9. Considerable activity was again recorded in 1946, 1985, and 1998. Draconid meteors have notably slow geocentric velocities (20 km/s), but many show persistent trains, possibly because they still contain volatile material, having been released comparatively recently from the comet’s nucleus.
