A constellation of the southern sky, representing a dolphinfish, also known as mahi-mahi. Its brightest star is Alpha Doradus, magnitude 3.3. Beta Doradus is one of the brightest Cepheid variables, ranging between magnitudes 3.5 and 4.1 with a period of 9.84 days. Doradus contains most of the Large Magellanic Cloud, including the Tarantula Nebula and the site of Supernova 1987A.
