For a random variable in statistics, any of the 99 values that divide its distribution such that an integral percentage of the collection lies below that value. For example, the 85th percentile is the value of a variable that has 85% of the collection below that value. The 25th percentile is called the lower quartile, the 50th percentile is the median, and the 75th percentile is the upper quartile.
