Any of several centres used by owners of payloads or experiments carried into space by NASA's space shuttle or interplanetary vehicles. Operated in conjunction with flight-control rooms, the POCCs allow the owners to monitor and control their equipment. Payloads that are deployed, retrieved, or serviced by the shuttle are monitored by a POCC at the Goddard Space Flight Center. The POCC for Spacelab missions was at the Marshall Space Flight Center. Payloads on board interplanetary and planetary missions are monitored from the POCC at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Other POCCs are maintained at locations chosen by private owners and foreign governments.
