Loss of the amorphous nature of glass as a result of crystallization.
Chemical Engineering
The loss of amphorous structure of glass as a result of crystallization. It is the opposite of vitrification. It occurs very slowly in nature, which is why glassy rocks are rarely found, having turned to crystalline structures over time.
Geology and Earth Sciences
The crystallization of minerals following the melting of a glass; this most commonly occurs in glassy ignimbrites, where the glass is replaced by microcrystalline cristobalite and alkali feldspar.
