A series of parallel, linear, low-relief ridges and hollows, spaced a few millimetres apart, seen on bedding planes in parallel-laminated sandstones. The lineation is the preserved trace of primary current lineations formed when plane-bedded sand is deposited from a high-velocity and usually shallow flow of water. The lineation is oriented parallel to the flow direction. See bedform.
