A small but distinctive constellation of the equatorial region of the sky, representing a dolphin. Its two brightest stars are Alpha Delphini (Sualocin) and Beta Delphini (Rotanev), magnitudes 3.8 and 3.6 respectively; the names of these stars written backwards spell Nicolaus Venator, the Latinized form of Niccolò Cacciatore (1780–1841), an Italian astronomer who named them after himself. Gamma Delphini is an attractive double of yellow stars, magnitudes 4.3 and 5.1.
