A condition in which information cannot be written onto or into a storage device, due to dust, dirt, damage to the recording surface, or damaged electronic components. 2. A condition in which there is an inconsistency between the pattern of bits transmitted to the write head of a magnetic tape drive and the pattern sensed immediately afterward by the read head. |
