释义 | regelation [¦rē·jǝ`lā·shǝn] HYDROLOGY Phenomenon in which ice melts at the bottom of droplets of highly concentrated saline solution that are trapped in ice which has frozen over polar waters, and freezes at the top of these droplets, so that the droplets move downward through the ice, leaving it hard and clear. THERMODYNAMICS Phenomenon in which ice (or any substance which expands upon freezing) melts under intense pressure and freezes again when this pressure is removed; accounts for phenomena such as the slippery nature of ice and the motion of glaciers. |
