A discriminator that uses two similarly connected diodes, fed by a transformer that is tuned to the center frequency; when the frequency-modulated or phase-modulated input signal swings away from this center frequency, one diode receives a stronger signal than the other; the net output of the diodes is then proportional to the frequency displacement.
