A megaloblastic macrocytic anemia resulting from lack of vitamin B₁₂, secondary to gastric atrophy and loss of intrinsic factor necessary for vitamin B₁₂ absorption, and accompanied by degeneration of the posterior and lateral columns of the spinal cord.
